Parishes of Armagh. SOURCE: Based on: Parish Maps of
Ireland. Brian Mitchell. 1988 & 2002 .
Update: Oct 10, 2022. Again thanks to Sean Bardon - the mystery behind the location of the two wee bits of the Parish of Newry (between Drumcree and Kilmore) are explained: ... granges were units of farmland held by monasteries and not always adjacent to the abbey concerned. These two denominations are probably among those granted by High King Murtagh MacLoughlin in 1157 to the abbey of Newry. The charter is a rare example of a pre Norman land grant by an Irish king. Tony Canavan writes about it in his book on the history of Newry 'Frontier Town' (Blackstaff press, 1989) |
