My dear Tom – Though easy writing days are over, I must write a line to congratulate you on your late [?sation] [1] . Not that I think you a better or more honourable man after it than you were before it, and I know you have sense enough to think so yourself; but it is [?] not to see that you evidently are appreciated by others. I am anxious to know how the affair came about. Of course it was not the Queen herself, but her ministers who proposed it and I wish to know what they know about you, and how they came to think of you. All are well here and every thing prospers about the old house at home.
We are watching for Minnie [2] and her children this month & will be delighted to see them. No news at present, but ten thousand times ten thousand blessings to you and yours from your affectionate Mother Eliza Jackson
