Urker March 31st 1890
My dear Tom
Your intelligence is most surprising. Can it be possible that in all the East, there is no man to be relied on; but that they must bring a man from England?
But you are quite right to go. I would not be the one to bid my Son turn his back on his duty; and I am proud that I am the Mother of such a Son.; and no doubt Minnie [1] is proud of her Husband, and so she ought to be.
May God bless you and keep you wherever you go; and bring you back in peace and safety as He always did.
I believe old Rose’s [2] blessing follows you, and always will; and many blessings besides.
No more at present as I hope soon to see you, and I am in hurry going to see the potatoes planted.
Love to all, from your most affectionate Mother,
