PROPOSAL
I hadn't a clue what Andreas was up to when he
took the microphone and started started saying things such
as, Sharon
and I began living together in 1974. Since then, we've raised two
wonderful children, travelled and lived all over Canada, built or
renovated several houses and in these and thousands of other ways
shared a life of remarkable love and harmony.
I started to have a hunch
where he might be headed when he said, Even after three decades,
every time I wake up in the morning and look at her lying there beside
me, I still feel like the luckiest guy on the planet.
No surprise - there
wasn't a dry eye in the house by the time he got around to saying, So,
Sharon, the concept of "taking my time" hardly begins to describe
the glacial pace with which I've approached this issue, but,
well ... I guess I'm finally getting around to saying formally,
that if you are so inclined, and if you figure you can put up with
me for another 3 decades, would you, you know ... marry me?

The best four person hug of my life with
Sabrina, Andreas and Vanessa - in front of 150 guests! It turned
out that Sabrina had known all along about this impending event.
She sure knows how to keep a secret. |
Da smooch! |
|
Beyond giddy - all four of us! |
|
Always the unrepentant story teller,
The Schroeder launches into the tall tale of how he actually
carved this ring out of a 12 foot length of cedar. Still and
all, I have been wearing the wooden ring that he crafted
on a gold chain around my neck ever since then. |
|
Sabrina added her own entertaining touches.
It's a good thing that she will be best man in our upcoming
nuptuals. Vanessa will fill the role of bridesmaid. Their mother
is quite ignorant of all such protocol and happy to be led. |
|
The dress that Vanessa is wearing was made
in two days - just in time for the big occassion - by her room-mate
Louise THIBAUDEAU. Thanks Louise! And Vanessa & Sabrina - you
both looked gorgeous. Totally. |
|
Andreas, Vanessa, Sharon & Sabrina - all of us still giddy with
the event. |

I don't know why this picture is so small - my technical abilities
are not always what I might wish for. Anyway, Andreas and Sabrina
- my love is huge. |
When Andreas proposed marriage,
I was utterly gobsmacked. I still am, so rather than stumble-bumming
my way along I have borrowed (with permission) some words from
a long-time friend. SEE: Kissing:
selected chronicles. |
