Olivers of Ballycrummy and environs
OLIVERS of BALLYCRUMMY
See also Cardinal Tomás Ó Fiaich Memorial Library for much of the original source material that enabled my start on this tree. Kieran McConville deserves significant credit for starting me on the right path. Mareen OLIVER of Ballycrummy took me to the family graves in the graveyard behind St. Patrick's (Catholic) Cathedral in the City of Armagh. She and Francis also taught me a lot about local history and townlands.
NOTE: It is possible that the family of Margaret ROCK may have been one of the Cladybeg ROCKS. It was home to the McCULLAGHs who also married into OLIVERs. It is also possible that she was a sister of the Sarah ROCK(s) who was housekeeper to William OLIVER of Killynure. See his 1873 will. She seems to have died at Ballynagalliagh, Parish Lisnadill in 1884, and may have held a small lease in 1856 at Ballycoffee, Parish Lisnadill near Simon ROCKS. (I need to do more deeds work on these townlands)
DESCENDANTS of JOHN OLIVER b abt 1810, probably in Tullymore, Parish of Armagh, Co. Armagh.
1 John OLIVER b: Abt 1841 d: 17 Dec 1909 Ballycrummy, Parish of Eglish, Co. Armagh. His son James OLIVER was present at his death of heart disease. He was variousaly described as a labourer and/or quarryman. NOTE: Oral history from the branch of the family in Birmingham indicates that he converted to the Catholic faith, likely at the time of his marriage. His father, according to his marriage cert, was a John OLIVER. I would assume that this John OLIVER was a Protestant and most likely a Presbyterian whose family were farmers with interests in linen. + Margaret ROCK b: Abt 1837 d: 23 Aug 1905 Ballycrummy, Parish of Eglish, Co.
