These Kings Co. JACKSONs of Camblin (aka Camlin), Roscrea, and of Shinrone are likely to be connected to other JACKSONs who resided in either Kings Co (aka Offaly) or Tipperary. The earliest JACKSON that I have a record for in Kings Co. is a Francis JACKSON who received a Grant recorded in the Down Survey. More work needed.

2022 Nov 25 DRAFT tree of JACKSONs of Camblin Roscrea

Map showing the proximity of Shinrone to Roscrea & Derrymore.

I have yet to find the parents of John JACKSON (1794-1873) nor do I know which line of JACKSONs he may connect to. The deeds included beneath this tree may provide clues. I have other related research under Shinrone JACKSONs on my hard drive under JACKSONs Misc., but not on line. Yet. December 11, 2022

Research NOTES:

Place Name confusions:

  • Derrymore: There is more than one Derrymore townland.
  • Clover Hill: There are two Clover Hills. One in Parish Roscrea, and other in Parish Nenagh, both in Tipperary.

There is likely a link between BURTONs & JACKSONs. One clue is that Gurtgreen and the Pollough are mentioned in a couple of leases from BALDWIN-BURTON and then a generation later to Thomas JACKSON.

John LLOYD-Thomas JACKSON

Image 655

John LLOYD of Gloster Kings Co. Esq. of 1 pt & Thomas JACKSON of Clover Hill Co. Tipperary Esq of the other .. as in Mem #271 above, but lands of Gurtgreen together with the Pollenagh known by the name of HURST’s holding and that part of Gurtgreen known as Brockerybeg with the turf plots in holding commonly known as Thomas DOOLAN’s Bog … with two houses and a garden at the rere of one house in Town of Shinrone [Shinrone, Parish Shinrone, Barony Clonlisk] occupied by Edward DEANE & Patrick WALSH To hold to said Thomas JACKSON for rent of £8.8

NOTE: Useful tool for more research:

·         1901 Census – all JACKSONs born in Co. Tipperary

·         1911 Census – all JACKSONs born in Co. Tipperary

·         1901 census – all JACKSONs born in Kings Co.

·         1911 census - all JACKSONs born in Kings Co.

·         1901 Census – all JACKSON born in Co. Clare

·         1911 Census – all JACKSON born in Co. Clare

·         Hunch: One possibility – based on the convergence of birthname, birthdate, and social-economic class – might be the John JACKSON born abt 1794, who was a son of Samuel JACKSON and Anne BOARDMAN - both Quakers. This family also had leases involving BURTONs.

·         Two of Charles JOHNSTON’s daughters married the JACKSON brothers: Thomas & John. This seems to be when the property at Shinrone came to be owned by the JACKSONs.

Hunch: The CARSONs of Ashbrook may be worth a look.

·           1911 Probate: Robert CARSON late of Ashbrook, Roscrea, Kings Co, Sailor who died in the year 1862 at sea granted at Dublin to Marianne JACKSON widow Effects £115

·           1911 Probate: Thomas Burton CARSON late of Ilford Rylestone New South Wales Gentleman who died 6 Aug 1902 granted in Dublin to Mariana JACKSON Widow. Effects £110.

·           NOTE: The recipient of the grant in this probate may be the Marianne wife of Thomas JACKSON. Her Death Cert: 1922 Jul 19 Mary Anna JACKSON widow Ashbrook age 79 farmer, son Burton JACKSON present Cloverhill Co Tipperary.

Who were these CARSONs? My hunch (hardly scientific - based on the location of the Ashbrook Arms pub) is that Ashbrook is in or near the townland of Townparks, Parish Roscrea, Barony Ikerrin.
