The JACKSONs in this tree were first documented in Kilrush, Co. Clare. They were well connected both in terms of the leases to townlands that they held as well as the importance of the positions that they held in both the military and the police, and later in the medical profession. The first John JACKSON sr. is unlikely to be the first member of the family to reside in Ireland. Future generations settled in Galway, Co. Galway and the City of Dublin. NOTE: The forename of the earliest known ancestor - John JACKSON - is sheer conjecture. It is not impossible that this family was related to the JACKSONs of Urker.

Update: Colonel M'Gregor, Director General of Police, has refused the application of Benjamin Jackson, esq. Chief Constable, to be removed from the Pallakenry district, but states that he shall have every support from the constituted authorities in the discharge of his duty there.
