Sir Thomas JACKSON was one of the first to build and have his family live on The Peak. He bilt some time between 1877 and 1880. 1887 is the first directory of The Peak where the residents are listed separately from the main directory.
Thanks for the help from Walter Chow and Helen Swinnerton of HSBC Archives in Hong Kong.

The Peak Directory 1888
● indicates the names that
were also noted in the 1889 Directory.
W indicates the presence of
a wife in Hong Kong.
1888 indicates the names that were not noted as present
in 1887.
- There are 40 individuals named (3 more than a year
earlier).
- 4 of them lived in one residence: Stonyhurst, 2 at Fernside.
- 4 of the residences were vacant, and are listed at the
bottom of the table.
- This means there were 36 named residences on The Peak in
this Directory.
- 26 of the men (3 more than a year earlier) had wives
living with them, or else their wives were living in their other Hong Kong
residence. The Peak was customarily used in the summertime, and a
residence nearer to the shore for the rest of the year.
