The annotations to this will are in the exploratory phase as I try to discern which branch of JACKSONs this Richard JACKSON (1832-1875) may or may not belong to. From his marriage certificate, we learn that his father was Joseph JACKSON – but which Joseph JACKSON? The jury is still out, but the strong association with the Orange Lodge indicates a likely association with the JACKSONs of Tartaraghan. This is still a work in progress.

1875 Oct 12 will proved: Richard JACKSON of Dennyloghan (or Derryloghan)

Derryloughan Road runs through the townland where Richard JACKSON leased his farm..

Dan Winter’s Cottage is at the intersection east of it.

The accident that resulted in the death of Richard JACKSON’s was at those crossroads.

Belfast Weekly Telegraph. Oct 9, 1875.

Last week, at Tartaragan, County Armagh, were interred the remains of the late Mr. Richard Jackson, who held the position of a District Master of the Orange Fraternity. The deceased was returning from Portadown Market on the previous Saturday evening to his home at. Dennyloghan, and when going over the historic hill known as The Diamond[1], he had to descend from his cart for the purpose of assisting some man to put on a grindstone. In getting out of the cart, his foot slipped and he received such internal injuries that notwithstanding all the skill of Doctor Leeper of Loughgall and Doctor Robinson of Armagh, he expired on Tuesday morning. At the funeral, there were no less than 42 lodges represented, The members were wearing the regalia of the order. The funeral service was impressively conducted by the Reverend Mr. Robinson, rector of the parish.

·         His farm was near Richhill where a leather merchant Joseph JACKSON (1801-1868) had his business. Vertical integration of business interests, as it was practiced then, usually involved relations, so that farmers, butchers, cordwainers, leather merchants and tanners shared overlapping business interests.
