Little scraps of things give us what little I know of this David JACKSON.
His older sister, Jeannie (Jackson) MOORHEAD had an entry for him in her
birthday book which gives us the day, although not the year of his birth.
The names in the picture above were likely done by Hal MOORHEAD, Jeannie's
son and may not be entirely accurate. It is possible that the order of
the children (left to right) is more correctly: Andrew ("Tanty"),
Jeannie, Elizabeth "Eilie" and Thomas "Tom" with David
yet to be born.
From the HSBC Group Archives I have an outline of his employment
record:
1904 Joins London office of The Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation
June 1908 East to join Hong Kong office
1910 Shanghai
1914 Hong Kong
1916 Calcutta [now Kolkata]
1917 Kobe, Japan
July 1921 on leave for 12 months
Service ends between after July 1921 when he doesn't return from leave.
Died in London in 1925.
A letter from David's brother, Andrew, in 1916 mentions that David is
in Calcutta. This would fit. Another letter - Document 85 of McCullagh
Family documents, from Mary GRIFFIN to Sally WHITESIDE, dated 27 Jan 1917
corroborates this:
Charlie Moorhead is also in France and so far safe. He is not strong but
not exempted from duty. Jeannie stays in Fosterstown with Andy and Emily.
Andy suffers from rheumatism badly. David Jackson their
son is in Calcutta and Tendy in Hong Kong -- Tom is still lame with
his knee and lives at home.
A news clipping of David's obituary was tucked into Jeannie Moorhead's
birthday book: "JACKSON - September 12, 1925, at a nursing home
in London, David, youngest son of Andrew and Mrs. Jackson, Forstertown,
Trim."
