An email from Ian JACKSON, Feb 4, 2003 gave the following information on Francis Gordon JACKSON: "He arrived in Cape Town, South Africa in January of 1900. he had a number of jobs including working for the police and finally as a coal miner until his death.... There are rumours that Francis Gordon had a twin sister and possibly a brother. The brother may have come to South Africa and returned to Ireland". For more on his parent's and his early life, SEE: John JACKSON & Kate Maria Jane WHITING Evidence of the twin sister turns up in the Birthday Book of Jeanne MOORHEAD, her name being "Kathleen". We know nothing more at this time. Francis' birth certificate indicates that he was born in Brackagh Townland, near Springfield, County Fermanagh, Ireland. He died in Germiston, likely of pulminary TB (the record says "Germiston of Tysis" and this could mean phthisis or in other words - TB ). This would fit as his employment as a coal miner. Mary Margaret GREEN was born in Vryheid, Natal, South Africa and died in Pretoria, South Africa. She was a housewife, but also spent a long time in the WAAFs (Woman's Auxiliary Air Force) in around WWII. |
