The SCOTTs of Singapore

For quite some time, I had heard whispers that the SCOTTs of Singapore were somehow related to Sir Walter SCOTT, the celebrated poet and novelist of Scotland. This was of interest to me because William Ramsay SCOTT (1838-1908), who was born in Java, had married Blanche Emily DARE. He was therefore a brother-in-law of Sir Thomas JACKSON – the husband of Amelia Lydia DARE, Blanche’s sister.

The whispered connection turned out to be true, William Ramsay SCOTT was a 2^nd cousin once removed of Sir Walter SCOTT. I have highlighted the two names in yellow in the family tree beneath to make it easier to see at a glance.

Much of the early information on the SCOTT family came from Sir Walter Scott’s Genealogical Memoirs of the Family of Sir Walter Scott. There are many more people from the Singapore region to be added into this family tree in order to flesh it out a bit, so hopefully I will hear from those who know more than I do. My interest is in the business inter-connections of the various family members in the Singapore, Penang, Hong Kong and Yokohama.
