John JACKSON of Edenthorpe Co. York = Helen dau of John WILKINSON of Bolton etc

SEE: JACKSONs of Edenthorpe. They must have more of a connection to Ireland than what I have found so far.

Queen Elizabeth, whose grandson, John Jackson Esq. of Hickleton, was created a baronet in 1660) Gu a fesse between three sheldrakes ar.

Brother [P___ly]

Sir Samuel CROOK, son of Thomas CROOKE and Mary JACKSON of Baltimore, Co. Cork.

By his wife, Mary Jackson, Thomas had three sons: Sir Samuel Crooke, 2nd Baronet, Thomas, a barrister of Gray's Inn, who was still living in 1624 (although he is not mentioned in his father's 1629 will) and James, who was still living in 1634.[17] They had at least two daughters: Judith, who married the landowner and writer Sir Vincent Gookin, and a second daughter, who is referred to in her brother Samuel's will (although curiously not in her father's), who married a Mr Salmon (this was probably James Salmon of Castlehaven, a prominent local landowner). In his will Thomas refers to his "son-in-law" Arthur Jackson: the word son-in-law was then interchangeable with stepson, so Arthur was very likely Lady Crooke's son by a previous marriage. In his own will Arthur refers to Lady Crooke as his mother.

Thomas left his estate to his widow, with legacies to his daughter Judith, his stepson Arthur Jackson and his wife Mary, to Thomas' brothers Samuel, "dear Helkiah" and Richard ("for his kindness to my children"), his sister Rachel Rosse (described as "much impoverished"), who was the wife of Henry Rosse, goldsmith, his "dear sister in law" Judith, wife of Samuel, and "good old Aunt Hudson" (who was still living in 1634.

Thomas JACKSON Park Co, Limerick Gent to Ann the widow. Granted 10 July 1677

JACKSONs of Duddington [aka Doddingham], Northamptonshire, England. The tree begins with Nicholas JACKSON (1570-1662) and is special for two reasons. The alleged Irish roots during the Elizabethan era of the family of Sir Thomas JACKSON (1841-1915), as well as their connections to Co. Kildare. The earliest known Irish-settled family is that of Francis JACKSON (1670-1740) who died in Fanningstown, Co. Limerick

1678

Francis JACKSON Enniscoe Co. Mayo Esq. to Oliver JACKSON the son Granted 23 Nov

JACKSONs of Enniscoe and Carramore, Co. Mayo originated in Sneyd Park, -probably in Kent, England. The first Irish connection is Oliver JACKSON (1605) whose son Francis JACKSON died in 1678 at Enniscoe, Co. Mayo.

Dorcas GREEN married Francis JACKSON in 1676, and the will of Francis JACKSON, a clothier, was probated in 1696. SOURCE: NA Ireland. Green Mss/III/I/p43. Doc # 27960. I do not yet know how it connects, and whether Francis JACKSON (?-abt 1676) may also be related to Michael JACKSON the clothier of nearby Pimlico. The land was described as: all those houses tanyards, backside gardens, backhouses, stables & Appurtenances held by George BLACKHALL on the south side of the Upper Comb in the Liberties of Thomas Court & Donore, Dublin,  containing breadth in the front 93 ft or thereabouts, in the rere.. and in depth to Mutton Lane of 312 ft… during natural lives of Dorcus JACKSON, wife of the late Francis JACKSON & Jane her daughter, wife of the said George [BLACKHALL] & Mary JACKSON grand daughter to the said Francis JACKSON. A map drawn in 1749 shows a portion of that parcel owned by a person named Vicars, possibly a son (William VICARS) of the Joyce JACKSON, daughter of Robert & Joyce, who married Jeremiah VICARS. None of the land is still held by JACKSONs.

SEE: (long shot) 1938 Notes on Family History: The forebears of these Jacksons are said to have come from York in England, and to have moved to Ireland with Cromwell.  They were given large grants of land in Co Carlow and Kilkenny called Mount Leinster, Borris.  This estate was entailed.  George sold out his interest in it in the mid 1700s and moved to the Crossmaglen area in Co Armagh, where he was master of the charter school. NOTE:.  It is possible that “our” JACKSONs came first in Elizabeth times – before 1603 – and then returned to England because of unrest. Then they resettled in Ireland after the Cromwellian conquest.

The Rev John JACKSON (1712-1787), brother of Frances JACKSON, had two children (I do not know their names). 1766, Rev JACKSON built Darndale House aka Derndawe, Darrendarre, Derndale, Derrindary. He bequeathed the house and property to The Incorporated Society of Protestant Schools, subject to his nephew Edward Beaver.
