My focus here has been on JACKSONs, with a few strays caught up in my net because they belong to collateral family trees that interest me.  I have made a start on cross referencing these entries with deeds etc. In June, I will be able to upload all the new information that I will have compiled, and will also upload all the changes to the pertinent family trees.

JACKSONs of Duddington [aka Doddingham], Northamptonshire, England. The tree begins with Nicholas JACKSON (1570-1662) and is of special reasons for two reasons. The alleged Irish roots during the Elizabethan era of the family of Sir Thomas JACKSON (1841-1915), as well as their connections to Co. Kildare. The earliest known Irish-settled family is that of Francis JACKSON (1670-1740) who died in Fanningstown, Co. Limerick

1678

Francis JACKSON Enniscoe Co. Mayo Esq. to Oliver JACKSON the son Granted 23 Nov

JACKSONs of Enniscoe and Carramore, Co. Mayo originated in Sneyd Park, -probably in Kent, England. The first Irish connection is Oliver JACKSON (1605) whose son Francis JACKSON died in 1678 at Enniscoe, Co. Mayo.

Dorcas GREEN married Francis JACKSON in 1676, and the will of Francis JACKSON, a clothier, was probated in 1696. SOURCE: NA Ireland. Green Mss/III/I/p43. Doc # 27960. I do not yet know how it connects, and whether Francis JACKSON (?-abt 1676) may also be related to Michael JACKSON the clothier of nearby Pimlico. The land was described as: all those houses tanyards, backside gardens, backhouses, stables & Appurtenances held by George BLACKHALL on the south side of the Upper Comb in the Liberties of Thomas Court & Donore, Dublin,  containing breadth in the front 93 ft or thereabouts, in the rere.. and in depth to Mutton Lane of 312 ft… during natural lives of Dorcus JACKSON, wife of the late Francis JACKSON & Jane her daughter, wife of the said George [BLACKHALL] & Mary JACKSON grand daughter to the said Francis JACKSON. A map drawn in 1749 shows a portion of that parcel owned by a person named Vicars, possibly a son (William VICARS) of the Joyce JACKSON, daughter of Robert & Joyce, who married Jeremiah VICARS. None of the land is still held by JACKSONs.

1685

Edmond JACKSON Portnascelly Co. Kilkenny Gent ot Michael READ of Waterford Principal Creditor Granted Feb 1685

SEE: 1938 Notes on Family History: The forebears of the JACKSONs are said to have come from York in England, and to have moved to Ireland with Cromwell.  They were given large grants of land in Co Carlow and Kilkenny called Mount Leinster, Borris.  This estate was entailed.  George sold out his interest in it in the mid 1700s and moved to the Crossmaglen area in Co Armagh, where he was master of the charter school. NOTE:.  It is possible that “our” JACKSONs came first in Elizabeth times – before 1603 – and then returned to England because of unrest. Then they resettled in Ireland after the Cromwellian conquest.

Limerick

Limerick.
